The Association of Foundation consists of a pool of Philippine NGOs who are certified, carefully screened and provides annual reports and financial audits. Transparency and accountability is a must if you want to be part of this group. This group of NGOs is a powerful team to foster development in the Philippines. Springboard has been a member of AF for many years and was present at the Association of Foundation’s (AF) 44th General Assembly, up in the cool climates of Baguio. AF brings together a diverse collection of foundations, that all have different backgrounds, from child protection to the environment to education to sanitation. The unifying factor between them is the collective aim of bettering the Philippines.
The two-day event covered many interesting talks and presentations. Discussions where held in the following areas:
- The effects of changes made to the school leaving age
- A review of different ‘Disaster Risk Reduction and Management’ (DRRM) groups in the Philippines
- The use of open source applications in project management
- Ways of addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as set out by the UN. Namely focusing on eradicating extreme hunger. According to UN figures, in 1991, 34.4% of the
world population experienced extreme hunger with the figure dropping down to 25.8% in 2014.
It is also a good opportunity to meet up with different foundations and form potential new partnerships and to bounce ideas off.
