Visiting Batang Pinangga in Cebu

Visiting Batang Pinangga in Cebu – this is a project from the proceeds of the Live Match

September: Annette Helbig, her daughter Nadja Helbig, and Kerrie O’Callaghan flew to Cebu to visit the orphanage Batang Pinangga for the commemoration of the new building with 2 showers, 2 toilets and a big area with sinks and mirrors. This project was financed by the Springboard Foundation from proceeds of the Live Match event. 25 children live in this orphanage, which is idyllically located in the mountains near Cebu. The children all attend local schools and live in two houses with their house-mothers; one for 12 boys and one for the 13 girls. It was a joy to see the lovely and brightly painted new building and to experience the gratitude of the children for such a simple but very much needed improvement. Only one single shower and one toilet had been available for the 13 girls before. The boys are hoping for additional bathrooms as well. This project was very well run and very quickly implemented. All expenses were accounted for and the supervision and quality of the building is excellent. We hope to be able to extend financial help to Batang Pinangga again. Springboard also donated 25 toothbrushes, 25 shampoos, 25 soaps and 25 toothpastes. We enjoyed the dance performance of the children; they had put much effort into their practice and wore beautiful costumes. Butch Carpintero, Annabelle Maguate and Christopher Koppel, who manage Batang Pinangga, made sure that we were well looked after.
